It is not a bad idea to stay informed about what is happening in your industry. In fact, it is a good idea. The problem today is that the internet provides so much misinformation about almost any topic. If someone tells you, "It must be true, I read it on the internet", try not to laugh and explain to the person that the source is the key. Whether the article is related to retail security or shark week the source is what counts. Way too often people act on incorrect information. Sometimes you have time to correct the mistake and other times it can cost you terribly. Always know and then vet your sources. Do not take action until you are sure you know all the facts.
