Police officers arrested a women attempting to steal a Sensormatic hand detacher. Obviously her intent was to use the detacher as a shoplifting tool. Colleen G!$*&@e was at the Schuylkill Mall Kmart when she gave in to temptation and snatched the hand detacher from behind the counter. Luckily store loss prevention officers were on their game that day and apprehended the thief as she attempted to flee the store. There are two key points to take from this story. One, always protect your Sensormatic detachers. Secure them to the counter or keep them locked up. A stolen detacher is a guaranteed loss. Two, vigilance does pay off. Watch those cameras and those customers. In this economy assume everyone is tempted to steal.

Guess who's coming to dinner...

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 256px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FBRZMaO3m_c/TVbKu2wSiLI/AAAAAAAAAIM/phDAoONd12o/s320/Shoplifter-4.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572864495238416562" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--PHMhSMsZIA/TVbKn40Oj1I/AAAAAAAAAIE/VownlCKI2is/s320/Shoplifter-3.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572864375532719954" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FpryI4p62OI/TVbKcDNS2uI/AAAAAAAAAH8/0YbsONbxG4s/s320/Shoplifter-2.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572864172163783394" />
Only two members of this shoplifting trio will be able to make it to dinner at home this evening. This threesome of theft was caught stealing from several stores including The Children’s Place, Gap, Old Navy, and Gymboree. Edna Rideout, Arius Marcelin, and Kesha Brown were all arrested on Feb 3rd in Rehoboth, DE. Arius Marcelin remains behind bars while the other two alleged thieves are free on bond. Some of the stores that were targeted had Sensormatic and Checkpoint EAS systems. These shoplifters were caught and arrested. EAS security systems do work! This spring as retailers are hoping for a strengthening economy, loss prevention experts are predicting a continuing spike in shoplifting in states that are still hard hit by the jobless rate. Florida, California, and Arizona are particularly troublesome areas where shoplifting out of desperation has greatly increased incidents of lower end theft. Use of extraordinary security measures is clearly warranted in these high risk zones.

Nyesha Porter is on the loose in Tulsa...

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_15AVQI8Z5Uk/TNRQnqTGazI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/PU0609fc_HY/s320/Shoplifter_Nyesha_Porter.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5536138484244704050" />Nyesha Porter is loose in Tulsa Oklahoma. In fact, it is a good idea. The problem today is that the internet provides so much misinformation about almost any topic. If someone tells you, "It must be true, I read it on the internet", try not to laugh and explain to the person that the source is the key. Whether the article is related to retail security or shark week the source is what counts. Way too often people act on incorrect information. Sometimes you have time to correct the mistake and other times it can cost you terribly. Always know and then vet your sources. Do not take action until you are sure you know all the facts.

Sensormatic Security Tags...

The supertag III is a great security tag. The following are essential to the maintenance of profitability:

1. Electronic Article Surveillance - Retail security tags and the antennas that detect them at the entrances and exits of a retail store.

2. CCTV - Closed Circuit Television is the security camera, monitoring and recording set up use to surveil a retail store.

3. Burglar Alarm - Motion detectors, window and door monitors that alert the police if someone has entered the store at unauthorized hours.

These three elements should not be viewed as optional. Technology has made these loss prevention solutions possible. Failing to take advantage of any of them will make you vulnerable to competitors with a healthier bottom line. Cell phones are no longer an option to the business person. If you are out of touch you can not compete with those who are in touch. Security measures are as essential to a retail store as a cellular phone to a traveling salesman.

Checkpoint Labels

There is one source on the internet where you can get almost any Checkpoint brand label. HarryG Security is an authorized Checkpoint Systems dealer. They carry the full line of Checkpoint Labels and they have special pricing for security stickers and labels that they acquire through liquidations. If you need hard to find sizes or standard barcode labels they have it all. Sometimes you may even find them at unheard of closeout prices. HarryGS.com also sells close out Sensormatic labels and refurbished sensormatic equipment. Being able to source fairly priced labels for both Checkpoint and Sensormatic security tag systems from one vendor can save time and money. Shipping costs are a major factor in the total tagging process. Every case of labels or stickers that ships on its own instead of being bundled with other labels is adding costs to the bottom line. If your warehouse orders both Checkpoint and Sensormatic products this is a viable provider for all your loss prevention needs.

Checkpoint labels are the most versatile EAS security labels in the marketplace. Checkpoint manufactures their security labels to exacting specifications and with the highest standards. Checkpoint labels are the most trusted RF labels in the world. Many competitors have tried to mimic the Checkpoint Label but non have been able to duplicate the technology that makes Checkpoint number one. The EP2410 label is a great example of Checkpoints dominance. No other 8.2 RF label in the world can deliver the pick rate of an EP2410 at the size of 1.0” x 1.1”. The EP410 label also sets the standard at its size of roughly 1.5” x 1.5”. Checkpoint labels come in a variety of sizes and shapes but there quality does not waiver. If it’s Checkpoint you know it’s going to work.

Spring Shoplifting Is In Full Swing...

As retailers fight to survive the economic tribulations of the day, shoplifters are piling on. Shoplifting occurrences have exploded this year according to various industry watch groups. Technology can't solve all shrinkage problems but it can help retailers fight the unnecessary loss incurred due to shoplifting. Electronic Article Surveillance systems have made huge strides in their effectiveness over the past decade. Retail security has advanced well beyond the days of simply tagging merchandise with ink tags. Today's tags can defeat almost any shoplifting countermeasures. No tag is flawless and all technologies have their foil. The fact is shoplifting can be thwarted for the most part. It is a matter of what the retailer does and does not take seriously.

Retail Security Tags 4/4/2009

The next generation intelligent tags are sweeping in to the marketplace. Companies like Security Tag Store are able to sell refurbished (close-to-new) Sensormatic detection systems, tags, and eas accessories at a huge discount to small and large retailers. Another advantage to companies like SecurityTagStore.com is that they are not limited to Sensormatic products; they are able to offer Sensormatic equipment along with Checkpoint, Congo, Ketec, etc.

Most popular Sensormatic products: The UltraMax technology that Sensormatic products use operates on a 58Khz frequency with the exception of some of their old EM (Electro-Magnetic) and Microwave anti-theft systems.

Sensormatic UltraMax Detection Systems -

Sensormatic UltraPost
Sensormatic Promax
Sensormatic Euro-Promax
Sensormatic Digital Promax
Sensormatic Doormax

Sensormatic Security Tags -

Sensormatic SuperTag
Sensormatic UltraGator
Sensormatic MicroGator
Sensormatic AMT-1000 (Stylus tag)
Sensormatic Ink Tags

Sensormatic Security Tag Detachers -

Sensormatic Super Tag Power Detacher
Sensormatic SuperTag Hand Detacher
Sensormatic Gator Tag Power Detacher
Sensormatic Gator Tag Hand Detacher

Ink I Ink II Ink III

Through the years there have been many ink pin - tag models and types. Checkink, Sensorink and so on. We all know the DoorMax was created by the Cylons, and that there are many copies, but who will strike first? Adama has gone off the reservation and is leading the charge with the USS bumbledore. The USS bumbledore is manned by a renegade crew comprised of hackers and inmates. You may remember Rafadel Adama and misfits from a few years ago when they attempted to snatch up all the field mice and bop them on the head. We fear that Rafadel and his men aboard the USS bumbledore have gone too far this time and want to consume all of the Door-Max systems.

We may never know why the Federation wants the DoorMax system, maybe they like the discreet EAS look; but when you are in a fierce battle with shoplifter nation you need the stopping power of Digital Promax.

________________________________________________________

All joking aside; the Sensormatic DoorMax discreet EAS detection system is one of the best on the market. ADT and Grupo Cortefiel have teamed up to establish source tagging in a well known lingerie chain. Read more

The goal is to save time and money as well as allow employees to focus on their jobs. The questions is: will the cost of one time use tags = savings or disaster? If you source with a label it should only cost you a few cents per tag, but those labels can ripped out in the store. If you tag your merchandise with visible source hard tag it can very costly.

By using source tags are you freeing up your employees to focus on their job or just giving them more time to goof off? Everyone has been in a store where you can see the sales staff doing anything but their job; there are 5 employees standing around not helping customers and you have to approach them just to buy something.

Sensormatic LE label vs. The Ultrastrip DR

What is the difference between the Sensormatic UltraStrip DR label and the LE ultramax label?

The Ultra-Strip Dr is the newer version of the LE label. Do not be too concerned with the name, regardless of whether you call it the UltraStrip or the Ultra-Max labels your retail security specialist should know what you are talking about (UltraStrip is the correct name). The main difference is detection range, if your exit is less than 6 feet wide you should not notice a difference. If you have 6+ foot exit then the LE labels will not work for your retail store.

If your are a source tagging for multiple stores/customers always use the Sensormatic DR label.

Larry...

Run for your life...

Do college football team need EAS?

We all know schools need to have Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) in their bookstores, that is a no brainer. This allows them to sell the systems cheap and make it up on the service. There are still Checkpoint compatible systems that can be self installed and tuned. Asks a good used loss prevention specialist and they will the good systems.
The first step to any retail security system is to have a licensed electrician come out to your store and run an isolated line with a proper ground preferable on it is own circuit to an outlet within 10 feet of the exit. Use a 3 conductor BX cable with 110-15amp. This is the standard so you should not have to say anything to the electrician but it is always worth checking.

This may not be the ultimate solution; however it should be the first step. All retail security system should have be an isolated line for optimum performance. If you having false alarms make sure there is no tagged merchandise within 3 feet of your system. Do not plug any other items into the outlet that the system is plugged into. Neon lights within 5 feet of a retail security system can cause interference. There are lots of situations that can cause “noise” or interference with your detection system and the security tags.

New Vs Used

I want a NEW retail security system for my store, but I do not want to pay with my first born. Effective Loss Prevention programs use a collection of different retail security measures. If have a large store and the checkout register is not next to the exit it can be hard to tell who the shoplifter really is.

I know, your thinking it is obviously the person holding the tagged merchandise. What if they hid the article in a bag or under their clothes?

More common is that multiple people exited the store at once and now what are you going to do? Search them? not likely.

EAS will stop 90% of shoplifters but the other 10% are professionals, and pros need to be caught in the act so you can prosecute them. CCTV allows you a little comfort; it is like having eyes in the back of your head.

Better surveillance systems will allow you to access them remotely, meaning you can be anywhere in the world and as long as there is internet access you can watch what is happening in the store. This type of retail security also helps with the help, see if people are stealing, goofing off, mistreating customers or on the other side monitoring the store can show you who is working hard.

EAS Equipment

Why do need EAS equipment? We are going to explore the answer and look at a Sensormatic detacher.

Here is the MK 75, a hand held hard tag detacher:

The MK75 is used to remove the pin from Sensormatic Ultra Gators and MicroGators. The MK 75 is not compatible with any other type of tag, Sensormatic or other. Like all other Sensormatic detachers the MK75 has a built in security chip that sound the detection system at the door is one is brought in or out of the store and NO the chip can not be removed.

So, why are we taking about Micro Gators and UltraGators? Sensormatic makes the Super Tag and if you are looking to protect your store from shoplifting use the SuperTag!

Well the Gator style hard tags from ADT (owns Sensormatic) are great for backers to ink pins. They are relative cheap in comparison to other new hard security tags and give added security by using a special detacher . . . the MK75

If you are looking to remove security tags or ink pins make sure to know what type of detacher you need, because security tags can be removed without the proper detacher, especially sensormatic tags.

Checkpoint Security Label Deactivators

Checkpoint Deactivators are easier to choose from than Sensormatic Deactivators. Checkpoint has several different models. But the decision you need to make is beep or no beep.

Ok, you are not following me.

If you want the deactivator to beep (not when you deactivate a security tag) when a hard tag is near the deactivation pad, then your decision is BEEP. All the beep really does is let you know the deactivator is on and working, oh and raise the price.

So, if save some money go with no beep and the functionality is the same only you have to look at the power pack to see if the green light is on to know if it is powered up.

Do not worry about the model, they can all be use in POS systems and are all similar in visual style. The most common models are the: counterpoint IV, counterpoint V and counterpoint VII. All of these are checkpoint deactivators and work on paper labels, soft tags, and security stickers.

Deactivate security tags?

This the Sensormatic Compact Pad Pro Deactivation Pad. Great countertop model for deactivating Sensromatic UltraMax labels
Deactivators can be a large part of your retail security system, or they could be useless. Look at a video store for example, you would think every DVD or video has a security tag (UltraMax label or checkpoint soft tag). That being the case a deactivator should be standard, NO. Video stores don’t want to deactivate the tag when a customer checks out a movie; they would have to put a new label on every time the movie got returned. This would take hundreds of hours or manpower.

Instead they want to have their checkout designed so they can pass the movie around the system. The customer picks up the movie after they walk through the detections system. This inexpensive build out just saved thousands or dollars in manpower.

New Chrome Magnetic Hard Tag Detacher

With the money companies lose to shoplifting how you can not purchase retail security equipment. Even if you are not ready to buy an entire loss prevention system, there are affordable EAS solutions. You could use ink pins (see ink pin article) with a magnetic bubble backer. By using magnetic backers you allow the use of magnetic detacher to remove the Tags. Here is a good detacher to use; it can be mounded to the counter to stop it from wondering off.

Ink pins will cost you about $330 and magnetic bubble backers are $250, both items typically come in quantities of 1000. The new chrome magnetic detacher shown costs about $85, so for a grand total of around $650 you can protect your store from shoplifting.

Ink tags can work independently from a detection system or use them for pins to other tags that work with your retail security system.

Super Lock Detacher - Do It All Detacher

Since we are discussing magnetic detachers we need to mention the Super Lock Detacher. This is the most powerful magnetic hard tag detacher on the market! If you are not sure which type of detacher you need to remove your security tag just get this.

The super lock detacher is compatible with Checkpoint, Sensormatic, Knogo, and any other hard tag that requires a magnetic detacher. If your store uses ink pins with magnetic backers this detacher will work. The Super Lock magnetic detacher will save you time with its incredible strength. You should be able to pick one of these up for around $115; however I’ve seen them listed as high as $150.

New Magnetic Detacher - Ckeckpoint & Knogo

Peep this.

This is a magnetic detacher. Stronger than the previous chrome magnetic detacher we showed you, this detacher is great for mini hard tags, large hard tags, and ink pins with magnetic nipple backers. This new counter mount detacher will probably work clam tags or golf tags however, if you are using clam tags or golf tags to protect you store I recommend the super lock magnetic detacher. Again, this is a medium strength magnetic detacher.

This detacher has a durable plastic case that is designed to be attached to the counter. There are 2 holes precut into the outer edge that can be used to tighten own the detacher, or there is a spot in the center of the base that can be used to screw down the detacher. You should be able to pick up this new magnetic detacher for somewhere in the $80 range, some more expensive shops sell them for around $100.

Magnetic Detachers

This little guy should be screwed down to the counter next to the register. I always recommend keeping a magnetic detacher in the back encase something happens. If you do not have a backup and you lose your primary one at the register you will not be able to take tags off the merchandise.

This detacher is perfect for mini hard tags and Large Hard Tags. Overall the unit is a little on the weak side so it will not work with every retail security tag, but it is a good place to start. The Mini Hard Tag and the large hard tag are the most common for Checkpoint loss prevention systems.

Most tags will note in the description what type of detacher to use.

Drift Away Profits

Guess what my Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) junkies?

It is Febbbbbbrrrrrrrrruuuuuaaaaaaarrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyy, and that means that the month of the security tag is over. What is nice about this hard tag is that in the past there where items that you could only use a security label on or you had to buy them source tagged if you wanted them protected. Checkpoint stickers and UltraMax labels are great but they are no hard tag. The Blister Pack Tag is so versatile, used to protect cell phone accessories, ink cartridges, batteries, computer accessories, pharmacy needs, sports products, home goods, hardware, HDTV cables and accessories, etc. Think of the possibilities, any boxed, clear plastic packaged, or item that is meant to be hung.

This retail security hard tag will save you time by eliminating the need to lock down your merchandise and allow you to openly display the product. No more putting customers on hold while you go unlock the display case only to have someone look at the item for 5 seconds and say “oh, thanks” as they hand it back.

The Blister Pack Tag works with both Sensormatic Acousto-Magnetic UltraMax technology and Checkpoint 8.2 MHz Radio Frequency retail security detection systems.

Product Features:
Fits Most Display Pegs
Weight: 0.035 oz
Frequency: 58 KHz / 8.2 MHz RF
Pull Force: Up to 180 lbs.
Product Code: UNI-BP

Golf Tags The New Generation

I want you to meet Herman the Retail Security Golf Club Tag.

Now I know what you’re thinking, Herman the Golf Club Hard Tag looks a lot like Flurman the Wine Bottle Tag from an ealier episode.

Well, you are right! Back in the day, the sports store was forced to protect against shoplifting with the same retail security tag as the liqueur store. It was a dark time then, before Robin of Loss Prevention was there to save the small retailers and Josh Kleins of the world.

But now it is the second coming of the quickening and electronic article surveillance (EAS) is evolving to fit any anti-shoplifting need. I present the Retail Loss prevention Golf Club Hard Security Tag.

The tag is specially designed for golf clubs. It is light weight and padded on the inside. Compatible with both Sensormatic Loss Prevention and Checkpoint Security Systems. That’s what I said, Acousto-Magnetic and 8.2 MHz Radio Frequency.

Some EAS stores call this an Eagle Tag. It does look like an eagle. I’ve heard of a screaming eagle. I call it a Herman Merman Tag. OK, enough non-sense!

Sensormatic SuperTag Combo

What’s so great about EL-200?

Well for starters it’s a Super Tag, there are so few that items that are so great that they have to put the word super in it. We got super glue, pretty good stuff. There is the super bouncy ball, I mean come on they don’t get any bouncier than that. Let’s not forget my personal friend Superman; we all know what a stand up guy he turned out to be.

The EL200-G is a SuperTag, but it is not just any super tag is grey Combo SuperTag. The Combo super tag is one of those double threat security tags, it works with both Sensormatic UltraMax technology and Sensormatic Microwave security systems.

Retailers watch out, EL200-G has a twin. EL200-B is a black Combo SuperTag. These 2 are identical in every way except color. The combo tags enjoy stopping shoplifters, Sensormatic power detachers, and ink pins.

Stores that have continued to grow over the years may have started out with Microwave security systems. They were the best systems on the market at one time and as you continued to open new stores Sensormatic stopped manufacturing Microwave loss prevention equipment. Your new stores started using Sensormatic UltraMax technology to prevent shoplifting and retailers were faced with an expensive dilemma, pay a lot now upgrade the security systems in all the older stores or pay a fortune in servicing outdated technology knowing that inevitable the systems will have to be changed.

With the Combo supertag retailers with both microwave and ultramax retail security systems can save money by only have to purchase one type of tag. Eventually when the time comes to junk to old loss prevention systems you won’t have to throw away and replace thousands of hard EAS tags.

Sensormatic Security Tag Guide

We are going to match EAS Tag names with their product numbers to help people find the correct Security tags for them. Or in my liqueur stores?

Bottle security tags are the answer.

This EAS bottle security tag is perfect for wine, champagne, and liqueur bottles. The bottle tag has a locking steel core that tightens around the neck of the bottle. Use a magnetic detacher to remove the remove the security tag.

If your location is high end I would recommend the Sensormatic Door-Max system. This system is aesthetically appealing and does not get in the way of customer traffic. If you own a large liqueur store go with the Digital ProMax by Sensormatic. If you store is more boutique size try the Checkpoint strata or liberty loss prevention systems.

When you buy loss prevention equipment remember to check for security system compatibility. I have seen the bottle EAS tag for both Checkpoint and Sensormatic systems. Make sure your discount retail security tag store has the right one for you.

Clam Tags Baby, Clam Tags

You are probable thinking what the hell is a Clam Tag?

No, this is not a XXX rated blog. Clam tag can be extremely useful and bring additional layers of security to your retail store. To understand the clam tag you need to know the clam tags nature.

Take the cone pin for example, why are cone pins better than the flat head pins? Every time you tag your clothing the cone pin locks in a little part of the item inside the head of the pin until you detach the sensor tag.

What does this really mean? If a shoplifter is somehow able to get an article out of the store when they attempt to cut out the pin they will in fact cut off some of the item. Similar to the benefit denial that you get from ink pins/tacks leaving a stain on the clothing most people are not going to wear something with a hole in it.

The clam tag amplifies this buy encompassing an even larger are of the retail item. Clam Tags come in two main sizes, mini and large. The mini is less expensive and about 5/8th the size.
You can see from the picture how the top half with the pin is able to cover a good amount of space. Believe me if a shoplifter cut that tag out of the clothing it leaves I huge hole. I have on occasion tried a hammer or beating the crap out of the tag to break it off and every time I have failed. These tags do not work with a normal security tag detacher either, they require a Super Lock Detacher.

Clam Tag are compatible with 8.2 MHz RF and also Acousto-Magnetic technology. Make sure you ask the salesmen before you purchase them to make sure that tag they are selling you are compatible with your retail security system. I have seen the identical clam tags that have different compatibilities. Checkpoint systems work with 8.2 MHz RF and Sensormatic security systems use Acousto-Magnetic or microwave. Clam tags are not microwave compatible.

Checkpoint Mini Hard Security Tags

HD TV is awesome, and no one is complaining about the hi-def crossover into monitors. CCTV is a huge part of retail security, but it is only one aspect loss prevention. The first one had reviews and answers to those hard questions, along with history, uses and best of all when I finally decided what specs I wanted for my specific use I was able to order it from a wide variety of TV/monitors that fit my needs.

Of course I searched all the big boys (Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Dell, HP, etc) to make sure I was getting the best price, and Hidefster beat them all.

The other site was also very informative but not as complete.
1. www.hidefster.com
2. www.hdtv-info.org

Great Things To Come!!!

Welcome to 2006!!

There are many great things to come this year, a Miami Hurricane national championship being the most obvious.

2006 is the year of the retailer, and January is the month of the Security Tag. This month Robin will bring the needy everything they could possible want to know about security tags.

For a change we will start, not end with my favorite security tag: The Sensormatic SuperTag. The Super Tag is exactly that…SUPER; they are the best tag on the market.

Sensormatic Super Tags feature:
1. Unique, spring gate clamp technology.
2. Reinforced interior for wear and tear.
3. Lightweight slim design.
4. Compatible with Ultra Max systems

They are aesthetically appealing and come in black or light gray. Light enough to use on lingerie and strong enough to use on sports equipment. The Sensormatic SuperTag can do it all, and does.

Most importantly it gives you that warm fuzzy feeling you can only get from a Sensormatic security system, or a bottle of J. We are just into Hanukkah and I have already received the best gift of all, my dream security system.

The Sensormatic digital Door Max, it has both visual and audio alarms and is the on of the smallest antenna systems on the market. This dual antenna Sensormatic system can be mounted on just about any surface: metal, wood, concrete, glass, wallboard, etc.

Yes that's right door frames and walls, meaning no mess floor mounting. No Drilling into tile, or cement floors. You'll never have to destroy your entrance again.

The Sensormatic Digital Door-Max Security System works on UltraMax technology and is the most aesthetically appealing antenna solution on the market. This dual antenna security system can cover up to a 6 ft exit. It is 72 in. Long, 2 in. Wide, and 9.5 inches in depth.

No matter what system you get, EAS is gift that keeps on giving. Month after month security tag systems stop shoplifting and prevents theft.

To recap compatible Sensormatic security tags: Super tags, Ultra Gators, and Ultra Max labels.

The big bad security system, and the little itty-bitty payment.

How do I get the most system and smallest payment?

That’s a great question, I’m glad you asked! A lot of people want to know if there are financing options when they buy EAS equipment; because we all know you can get it discount, but it’s not always cheap.

Most companies do not have financing options, but don’t fret.

Companies like PayPal are there to save the day. You can go to their website and apply for a line of credit, they offer several different options: installments, no interest options, no payments for a set period of months, etc. There are a couple good discount security tag stores that accept PayPal, and it’s a great option for stores starting out, or just opening another location.

It’s all about cash flow. If you can afford it, buy it outright. Many of us at one time or another has fallen into the “What’s most important right NOW” philosophy. Retail Loss Prevention financing options allow us to put the here and now together with what’s best in the long run.

Credit Cards are always a good option, but PayPal is under the radar and a great alternative.

Security Tag Fiction

From the lighter side of EAS

Robin Of Loss Prevention:
You know I was online the other day and bought some Electronic Article Surveillance equipment from Security Tag Store.

Retail John:
Security what?

Robin Of Loss Prevention:
SecurityTagStore.com, it’s an internet based retail loss prevention store. Know your exit, know your exit, know your exit!

In this episode we will explain the Sensormatic acousto magnetic side of the industry. Sensormatic offers a wide variety of retail loss prevention systems: Ultra Post II, Digital Pro Max, Euro Pro Max, Euro Max Plus. Their security systems are known as the best in the industry and are proven to work in the toughest environments.

1. Ultra Post II – The UltraPost II is a transceiver. This means a single post can cover 3 ft in either direction (2.5 ft to be safe). Best use is as a multi post system, linking 2 pedestals together to cover a 6 ft exit. 2 antennas can be used to cover up to a 9 ft exit, and 3 towers can cover up to 15 ft, Ultra Posts should not be placed more than 6 ft apart. Alarms are both visual and audio.

2. Digital ProMax – The Pro Max is also a transceiver, this system can cover a 4 ft exit. 2 pedestals can be linked together to cover up to a 16 ft exit (12 ft to be safe). Do not place antennas more than 8 ft apart. 3 towers can be linked to cover up to 24 ft. The Digital ProMax is designed for high traffic areas and has both visual and audio alarms.

3. Euro ProMax – The Euro Pro Max is built on the same principle as the Digital Pro Max. It will cover the exact same distances, but was designed to be more aesthetically appealing. Perfect for those high traffic areas where looks are just as important as performance. Two antennas can cover up to a 16 ft exit, 3 towers can cover up to a 24 ft exit, Pedestals should be mounted no more than 8 ft apart. The Euro Pro Max had both visual and audio alarms.

4. EuroMax Plus – This system was designed for areas where appearance is the most important concern. Two antennas are meant to be linked together and can cover up to a 5 ft exit. This security also has both visual and audio alarms.

All of these Sensormatic security systems work on UltraMax technology, and are compatible with the Super Tag, SuperTag II, UltraGator, Combo Tag, and all Ultra Max Ultra-Strip Labels.

May your merchandise be safe and your shoplifters prosecuted.

What is the most expensive part of your retail security system?

Part 1

They are called antennas, or pedestals, also known as Towers. The savvy may call them receiver, transmitter, or transceiver. What ever you call it, it is the single most expensive part of a full retail security system. I say full retail security system because the detection system is useless without security tags of some sort.

Everyday people ask me for a Checkpoint Quicksilver Dual Antenna Detection System. I ask them the dimensions of the exit, and they tell me 8 ft. That's great if you want 5 ft of unprotected exit.

Sticking with our December detection system theme we are going to provide you with the ultimate shoplifting detection security system cheat sheet. This will be a two part posting, the first one being Checkpoint Systems and the second Sensormatic Systems.

Checkpoint has 5 detection systems: Quicksilver, QS 2000, QS 4000, Strata, and the Liberty.

1. Quicksilver – Consists of 2 pedestals, transmitter and receiver. Both are required for the system to work. The dual antenna system will cover a 3 ft exit. Additional pedestals can be added, each one expanding the exit 3 ft. Antennas can not be placed more than 36 inches apart. 3 towers will cover 6 ft, and 4 towers will cover 9 ft. There is no visual alarm on this Checkpoint model.

2. QS 2000 – Very similar to the Quicksilver, the major difference being that there are both visual and audio alarms on this Checkpoint model. Consists of 2 pedestals, transmitter and receiver.

3. QS 4000 – This system has both visual and audio alarms. Consists of 2 pedestals, transmitter and receiver. Both are required for the system to work. The dual antenna system will cover a 4 ft exit. Additional pedestals can be added, each one expanding the exit 4 ft. Antennas can not be placed more than 48 inches apart. 3 towers will cover 8 ft, and 4 towers will cover 12 ft.

4. Strata – The Strata pedestal is a transceiver. This means that a single antenna can operate by itself. The Strata is best used as dual or multi antenna system, designed to cover large exits and high traffic areas. Two Strata post will cover a 6 ft exit. Towers should be no more than 6 ft apart. 3 antennas can cover an 18 ft exit, and 4 antennas will cover a 24 ft exit. System has both visual and audio alarms.

5. The Checkpoint Liberty – This system works exactly the same as the Strata system. The major difference between the 2 systems is the appearance. The Liberty being a newer system is more aesthetically appealing. This system has both visual and audio alarms. 2 antennas cover 6 ft, 3 antennas cover 12 ft, and 4 antennas cover 24 ft.

We will break on this note,

Know Your Exit! What is the best Checkpoint Loss Prevention system for me?

The first question you need to ask yourself is: Do I need 2 antennas or 3?

Start by examining the amount of traffic through the exit. Will a third antenna in the middle of the entrance get in the way of large items or shipments coming in or out? If so, then a Dual Antenna System will be a better choice.

Checkpoint has two great Security Systems to cover a 6 ft exit, the Strata dual antenna system and the QS 2000 three antenna system. A Strata tower can cover 3 ft in direction and two can be inked to cover a 6 ft exit. A typical QS 2000 consists of 2 pedestals that can be placed a maximum of 3 ft apart. A third antenna can be linked to cover a 6 ft exit, the system you create two 3 ft aisles to pass through.

If your store has consistently high levels of traffic, then a three antenna system will experience more wear and tear. Ultimately costing more in service and repairs. It can also slow the flow of traffic in and out. For this situation use the Strata dual antenna security system.

If the exit is surrounded with lots of merchandise, especially directly next to the Strata antennas it is possible for them to pick up more interference (false alarms). In this case would recommend the QS 2000 with the expansion antenna to cover the 6 ft exit.

No matter which EAS solution you choose a high quality, refurbished and tested Checkpoint Security System will should last 8 to 10 years.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://securitytagstore.blogspot.com/2005/12/need-to-cover-6-ft-exit-what-is-best.html' title='Need to cover a 6 ft exit?
